Udon's Capcom Comics for 2008
Udon's Street Fighter comics have been the best things to happen to the Street Fighter that wasn't a game. Their stories and art have always been top-notch and better than the other published tales of the Street Fighter universe. The manga is a bit questionable, the various animated series and movies are a mixed bag, and of course the Van Damme Street Fighter movie is infamous for how bad it is. On their blog today, Udon announced the ha-do-ken fueled goodness they have in store for Street Fighter and Capcom fans in 2008. First on the list is the continuation of the core SF comic series' storyline. Street Fighter II Turbo will be a 12-issue series that continues the main storyline established in Street Fighter and continued in Street Fighter II. It's kind of funny how they are using the "Turbo" moniker in the latest series, but it does kind of make sense. Will Super Street Fighter II Turbo be the next series? The Street Fighter Legends series will continue with a 4-issue mini-series featuring Chun Li. This will show us how Chun Li became the "strongest woman in the world" and maybe reveal how her thighs got so damn big. Udon's first Legends mini-series starred Sakura in one of her wacky adventures. I have a feeling the Chun Li story will be a little more serious, though. Udon’s third project is Street Fighter III: New Generation. Street Fighter III already? They haven't finished Street Fighter II yet! This will be a 6-issue series that will introduce us to the newer characters from the third numbered game. Udon will also show us what the old fighters, such as Guile, Sakura, and the others, are doing during this time. If you're not a fan of the new guys from SFIII, then the series should be worth reading just to check on the ol' favorites. Udon also has plans to bring more Capcom manga titles to the US with Onimusha: Twilight of Desire and Devil Kings Basara. I was not aware there was a fan base for Devil Kings, but good for Udon for bringing over more Capcom stories. For art books they will have Darkstalkers Graphic File and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: Official Complete Works. Udon has a lot of on their plate with all these books, plus whatever art they have yet to do for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, so hopefully they can keep up with it all. - Shawn - 12/11/07 |
