Toro and Kuro Get Evicted

This is just awful. Toro, who is basically Sony's mascot cat in Japan, is being evicted from his home. Toro and his friend Kuro were the hosts of their own daily news program called Mainichi Isso. It was free to download and was updated every day. Watching episodes netted you points which could be spent on tons of virtual items to deck out Toro's room with all the latest and greatest videogame swag. Or you could pay real money for virtual items, kind of like people do in PlayStation Home. The game also had Trophies for all the Trophy hunters. It was one of the best things on the PS3, but on November 11th, Mainichi Isso will be replaced with Weekly Toro Station. Instead of a new episode every day, there will now be one every week, but that's not the worst part. You see, Toro is being thrown out to the curb and will be forced to live in a dirt lot. Toro and Kuro will still be doing a weekly episode on Fridays, but it will be from the cold, damp, dirty lot outside. Only by paying ¥800 a month will you get to see Toro living inside a mansion and have a place to put all his cool swag. Yes, a free daily program is going to once-a-week and will cost ¥800 a month if you don't want Toro counted as part of the homeless population.

Toro and Kuro's new home is a dirt lot of sadness.

This is just cruel, unusual, and unnecessary punishment for Toro and Kuro. They freaking interviewed Hideo Kojima, doesn't that count for something? I can understand the need to go to once a week because it had to be getting expensive to have had a new episode every day for the past three years. But to pay to keep Toro off the streets? That is one of the most inhumane things I've ever heard. Below, you can watch the final episode of Mainichi Isso, episode number 1088, and feel your heart shatter as you see Toro come to terms with being homeless. (via Andriasang)
