Time Crisis Mobile -Namco (2006) -Played on a Samsung A930
Summary: Duck and cover before that tank shoots you in the face. My Thoughts:
There are two control schemes in Time Crisis Mobile. The first is semi-auto which has a targeting reticule that you move around the screen and over enemies, but you would be a fool to use it. It’s too slow and awkward to try to shoot anything. Namco smartly developed a completely different control scheme that makes the game work on a phone. The grid control scheme divides the screen into a grid with nine squares. Each piece of the grid corresponds to a number key on the phone. When an enemy appears in a square, all you need to do is press the right number key. To hide behind objects all you do is press the 0 key. The control is simple and works brilliantly, yet the game remains challenging. Story mode is divided into three stages with many smaller individual areas where you stop to shoot up some dudes. The on-rails path takes you from the streets of a city, up on rooftops, to a mansion of the main bad guy. The transition between each little area is very smooth. All through the game you’re hiding from and shooting lots of guys with guns, grenades, and knives. The bosses are a tank, a bunch of guys that might be ninjas, and the final boss in which you chase throughout stage 3. Story mode can be completed pretty quickly if you’re good with your shooting fingers, but there are a few things to unlock. Upon successful completion of certain requirements, such as 200,000 points in story mode, you will unlock extra mini missions in the crisis mission mode. There are a total of five of these extra missions and these are much more difficult than the story game. Each of these unlockables requires you to play through the story mode over and over, though. While the game is good, playing the same three stages becomes a bit tiring. The visuals are faithful to the original. The 3D graphics and textures seem as though they’re from an early PS One game. The sound is limited to an incredibly brief music track that loops over and over. With Time Crisis Mobile Namco has accomplished what used to be a seemingly impossible task: made a light gun game without a light gun actually good.
