Superman Ride of Doom

No. No, you will not.

This week a Superman ride made the news, but not the kind of news either Superman or his parent corporation AOL Time Warner would have wanted. At Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, a cable snapped on the ride Superman Tower of Power and it cut off a thirteen year old girl's feet. Yes, her god damned feet.

The ride is fairly simple. It pulls up a bunch of people and then drops them straight down. At the Six Flags closest to where I grew up, this thing is called the Big Drop, because that's all you do. I've never been a big fan of falling or thinking I was going to die, so I've never ridden one of these dropping type rides. I have ridden roller coasters, which are most likely a dozen times more dangerous, but at least there's more movement than being thrown to the ground like a used ketchup packet.

I never thought it was possible to lose a limb on a ride like that. The most obvious danger to me is, well, falling to your death. This kind of news shakes me up a bit. I already worry enough about everything in life. I worry that I'm going to get into a car accident, I worry that I'll get hit by a car when I walk to work, I worry my apartment building will crush me when The Big One hits, I worry I'm going to get stabbed to death by robots; there's no end to the things I worry about on a daily basis. The one thing that I've never worried about is losing my feet. This is something entirely new that I have to add to my worry repertoire and frankly, I don't know how I'll fit it in. I'm already busy worrying about every elevator I ride in plummeting to the ground, now I've got to wonder if somehow I'll lose my feet instead. Not cool. Not cool at all.

Side Note: I've read that the Superman Tower of Power used to be named the Hellevator, which is infinitely more appropriate.
