Star Wars Celebration IV Costumes

The best thing we saw at Celebration IV? Hmm, we'll have to think about that...

Many fans took the uber-fan initiative and attended Celebration IV in full Star Wars costumes. Paul and I almost felt out of place because there were so many people dressed-up. We had already seen a lot of these costumes at other conventions so what peaked our interest this year was something original, something that was different than the usual mix of Jedi, Storm / Clone Troopers, and Ken the Elvis Storm Trooper. We were not disappointed as there were many original costumes this year.

The normal human Jedi and Clones were easily the highest number of costumed fans. The thing clones needed was to be unique, so the people that dressed like specific clone commanders stood out more. What was surprising was that it seemed the third highest were Amidala outfits. Padme had tons of outfits in Episodes 1-3, and it seemed like every time we entered a new hallway or room, there was another Padme in a completely different costume. The fourth most worn costume was most likely Boba / Jango Fett. However, they weren't just repeats of the two infamous Fetts, they were fresh Mandalorian Commandos, each with a unique paint job on the armor. There were also many slave Leia costumes. Some of the women looked good, while others should have really thought about it before going to the convention.

Aside from the bikini Leias, a big fan favorite were the few women dressed up as Twi'lek Jedi, especially the red one. Her name is Darth Talon, from the Star Wars Legacy comic series. There was one Talon in particular that was wearing a very skimpy outfit with her entire body painted with the character's tattoos. We don't really know anything about Talon, but for some reason we really started to like her. Although, there was also a super fat version that would have broken our cameras had we snapped a photo. There was also a little something for the ladies with shirtless versions Darth Maul, Clone Wars Anakin, and a dude wearing the gold bikini.

Costumes Paul and I both appreciated were those from Cartoon Network's Clone Wars animated series with a Clone Wars style ARC Trooper, a few snow-outfit Padmes, a couple Anakins, Obi-Wan in clone armor and one of those blue coyote things. Strangely enough there were also plenty of non-Star Wars costumed people at the show. We spotted, Batman, Robin, the Joker, Black Cat, and the Burger King. At least the King had on Storm Trooper armor... with a gold bikini on top of it. The best non-Star Wars costumes were the two old Battlestar Galactica Cylons. They had everything down with their costumes; the look, the moving red eye, the robotic sound, and the voice.

Much to our surprise and horror were the old school nerds we saw at the show. They were not costumes, but a couple of guys that still dressed like super nerds from the early '80s. We thought that kind of nerd was extinct, but apparently there is place where they still thrive in their chest-high pants, tucked-in polos, and flat greasy hair. Someone really needs to reach out to those guys.
