SDCC '11: ThunderCats and Videogame Figures from Mezco
Mezco's mega-scale Lion-O stands an impressive
14" tall, but standing next to him in a Mezco display case was their next mega-scale figure, Mumm-Ra,
which may have been even more impressive.
Mumm-Ra is maybe an inch taller than Lion-O and is complete with tattered cape
and bandages strewn about. I asked the guys at the Mezco booth if there was
going to be a big Ma-Mutt to go along with the huge Mumm-Ra. One of them said he
really wanted to make a Ma-Mutt now and would make sure it would get made. So, I
guess keep an eye out for a mega-scale Ma-Mutt in the future. Mezco's exclusive
for SDCC was mega-scale Lion-O with an alternate shouting head with red glowing eyes.
These figures only have about seven points of articulation, but what they lack
in joints they make up for in their amazingly accurate looks.

Mega-scale Mumm-Ra is
ever-living huge. Expect to see a big Ma-Mutt in the future. |
Lion-O is mega-sized for a
mega, "ThunderCats Ho!" |
Mezco also had had a number of unexpected
videogame figures. There is a Nathan Drake from Uncharted 3 that looks
good, but seems to have very limited articulation. It was difficult to tell if the Ratchet & Clank set are
action figures or a statue. Probably only their arms and heads will be
articulated. There were Ratchet & Clank plush dudes, which is probably good
since the figures and the plushies are from the more kid-friendly Ratchet &
Clank: All 4 One game. Most
unexpected of these videogame figures were the Earthworm Jim figure and plush.
The original game had an HD release not too long ago, but other than that there
haven't been mush talk of a new title. The figure looks very similar to the old
Playmates one and the plush is quite beefy for an earthworm.
