Rocket Raccoon and Groot Guard the LEGO Galaxy

Back at Toy Fair this year, we got our first look at one of the Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO sets from the movie that will launch Rocket Raccoon into super stardom. LEGO revealed the other two sets which round out the members of the Guardians and give us some cool spaceships. The photos of the sets are not big enough to really see everything, but give us a decent look at what we'll get, namely Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

I like that Groot is big, but I also want to see a tiny Groot that Rocket can carry with him.

The Knowhere Escape Mission set includes mini-figures of Rocket Raccoon, Nebula, a Sakaaran, and a big-ass non-mini-figure of Groot with some kind of mining ship and a tower. As expected, Rocket looks awesome and includes his signature bigger-than-himself gun. It looks like he might be normal LEGO mini-figure sized, so he'll look unusually big next to everyone else, unless LEGO used the stubby legs from The Lord of the Rings mini-figures, which is a probability. It's interesting how LEGO handled Groot. I was expecting Groot to be a larger solid figure, like the Rancor or Jabba the Hutt form the Star Wars sets, but instead, Groot has to actually be built using some custom pieces along with normal brown Lego bricks. It makes a lot of sense to make Groot this way because, in the comics, Groot can be different sizes and grow to massive proportions. I imagine we'll see Groot change size in the movie, too. Having Groot be a buildable figure means that fans could make Groot into nearly any size they wish. LEGO made a good decision. However, I still want to see a tiny Groot accessory figure, like the little statues included with some of the blind-bagged mini-figures, so that Rocket can carry around Groot. Hopefully we'll see that in another Guardians of the Galaxy set, if LEGO continues to make more than just the three.

The other freshly revealed Guardians set is the Starblaster Showdown. This includes a Nova Corps Starblaster ship and a Sakaaran Necrocraft with mini-figures of Star-Lord, a Nova Officer, and a Sakaaran. For good measure, the previously revealed set from Toy Fair is the Milano Spaceship Rescue was re-revealed with the packaging art. This large set has the Milano and Ronan's personal Necrocraft along with mini-figures of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Ronan the Accuser, and a Sakaaran. There's also a video showing off the feature of the Milano over at The Brick Fan. I haven't been this excited for LEGO sets since the Vic Viper was officially put into the Earth Defense HQ set. Hmm, I probably end up putting Rocket in the Vic Viper, just because.
