Takeshi Kaneshiro in Onimusha Again
Onimusha fans can start getting seriously excited about the Onimusha movie now. Takeshi Kaneshiro, who played the main character of Samanosuke Akechi in two of the Onimusha games, will be reprising the role in the film. In an interview with French site DVDrama and discovered by Ain't it Cool News, director Christophe Gans let the casting cat out of his hat, if he was even wearing a cat-casting hat. The Onimusha games have modeled their main characters from real Japanese actors, who also voiced the characters. Kaneshiro played Samanosuke in Onimusha: Warlords (Genma Onimusha on Xbox) and Onimusha 3: Demon Siege. You may also remember Kaneshiro as Jin in the visually impressive House of Flying Daggers and Miyamoto in the sci-fi action flick Returner. There have not been any other casting announcements yet, but with Kaneshiro in the lead it almost doesn't matter. Although, it would be completely strange if Jean Reno, who was also in Onimusha 3, was suddenly cast in the picture. So far, things are looking very good for Onimusha. It has the exact right lead in Kaneshiro, and a good director with Gans. Gans previous game movie, Silent Hill, may have lopped a huge amount of exposition on your chest near the end, but overall the movie was very well done compared to all other game movies. It captured the creepiness that drip from the games and the look of the town and the evil creatures were horrifyingly good. The only bad thing about all of this is that Onimusha won't be out until September 2009. - Shawn - 06/04/07 |
