Okkusenman: X Japan Rocks it out Hardcore (Updated) Japan's frothing fervor for Okkusenman is nigh insatiable, almost like my own. A reader by the name of Nano pointed me towards this newer video, which was added to YouTube two weeks ago. I haven't actually searched for any new Okkusenman videos since my third article on the song. Whoever posted the video mistakenly put the English Romanji name as "oxenman." The band is named X Japan, a Japanese speed metal / progressive group, and they rock out Okkusenman harder than anyone. I don't know when this was performed as X Japan disbanded in 1997 and had just recently reunited this year, with a new DVD and album on the way very soon. Since they just got back together the performance must be old, unless they somehow did the song the same day they reunited. This song may not even be X, but the video is so well put together that it works. It is cut like a live music video. The countless quick cuts assault every inch of your face and will either give you a seizure or make your eyes explode. It's hard to tell just what parts, if any, are from the actual Okkusenman performance and it could be something made by a fevered fan, but as I said this high energy video still rocks. The lead singer rocked he shirt right off and the one that looks like a chick is a dude. Also, the drummer is rocking Okkusenman so hard that he had to wear a neck brace to keep his head from bursting off. Prepare yourselves for the ultimate Okkusenman video.
Honestly, I don't know what can top that. - Shawn - 06/15/07 Update: A knowledgeable reader named Craig says that this performance happened on December 31st, 1997 and was their final televised concert. We now know when this epic performance of sheer awesomeness occurred. Thanks Craig! Update 2: Another astute reader named Mille emailed me and said that this is not X Japan performing the song, but two other Japanese dudes that made their version of Okkusenman sound similar to X Japan. So that would mean the video footage is from their final performance and the music is from some other guys. I was always wondering if it was actually X Japan performing the song and now I know. Thank Millie! Okkusenman, Mega Man, OKKUSENMAN!!! |
