The Monkey's News Box: 1/25/15

  • Marvel announced that they are ending the Marvel universe and the Ultimate universe in Secret Wars. I guess these aren't spoilers since Marvel is telling us all this, but they kind of are. The universes will collide and everyone will be in Battleworld. What happens in Battleworld will form the new and only Marvel universe. Many of the big Marvel stories from the past like Age of Apocalypse, Days of Future Past, Armor Wars, House of M, and many more will be the building blocks of the new universe. Some characters will not make it to the new Marvel universe, which we are told that fans will be probably be angry about. Secret Wars will begin in May with issue #0 for Free Comic Book Day. The Interactive Battleworld map will be updated to show who is where in Battleworld and what stories you can catch up on until this all begins. Watch the video below to see the announcement of all this craziness. DC did the whole New 52 reboot a few years ago and that didn't turn out so good. Hopefully Marvel can make a mass reboot will turn out better.

  • Mondo's Iron Giant figure went up for pre-order this week. The Iron Giant has over 30 points of articulation, two interchangeable heads with light-up features, Hogarth mini figure, gun arm, a girder, and a magnetic S sign to attach to his chest. Their exclusive edition included a "Hand over foot" accessory and sold out super fast. Iron Giant costs $300, but is probably worth it.

  • DC Collectibles are address the quality control issues with their Batman Animated figures. The next waves will be delayed and slightly adjusted so they can make sure joints don't break. They also released a teaser of what might be a Batmobile vehicle for the figures. The silhouette doesn't look right for The Animated Series Batmobile, but we'll get to see what it is at Toy Fair next month.

  • ThreeA's second Transformers figure will be Megatron. It's the Revenge of the Fallen version, with the damaged face. The ThreeA exclusive version will include a cloth cloak and Matrix of Leadership. Megatron will go up for sale on January 30th for $430. The figure looks amazing, sure, but I wish ThreeA was able to get the G1 or IDW versions of the characters. I can easily pass on movie Transformers.

  • One of the most expensive editions out there, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is getting a Claptrap-in-a-box Edition. This includes an actual Claptrap robot on a gyroscopic wheel that can be controlled using a joystick or an app for your phone. The Claptrap has a camera in its eye that sends the video to your phone. The little bot includes lots of phrases from the game, too. Even at $400, this sold out in minutes. Congratulations if you got you one. Oh, the edition also includes the Handsome Collection (remastered Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel for PS4 or Xbox One), most of the DLC, and a Steelbook.

  • A guy found a glitch in Super Mario World called a credits warp which makes the credits roll without even beating the game. It's pretty impressive and he did it on an actual SNES, not some emulated tool assisted garbage. He did it again even faster. How people find this stuff is just amazing.

  • Club Nintendo is shutting down on 6/30/2015. Those who don't use their coins will lose them and all accounts will be cancelled. Nintendo will be putting up some last-minute rewards in February and will be rolling out a new kind of program in the future. I'm not really sure why the club needs to be ended if they're just going to make a new one. Read the FAQ that answers some questions.

  • Woah Dave might be put on an actual NES cartridge. They would have to tone down the game a little because the NES wouldn't be able to handle everything, but it is possible. I didn't know what to think of the game when I first played it, but it's growing on me.

  • If you're hyped for Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, you might want to watch The Disgaea Channel. It's a 30 minute variety show with lots of zaniness, mostly involving Prinnes.

  • This video compares the original PSP Final Fantasy Type-0 to the upcoming PS4 remake. It's so weird that a PSP game is coming to PS4.

  • There's going to be another remake of The Blob directed by Simon West. I love the original and '88 remake, but can Simon West do a good horror movie or will this turn into a mediocre action flick? The Blob is more than likely to be some CG creation. I'm not feeling great about this one.

  • Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm have been cast for X-Men: Apocalypse with Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp respectively. Yes, that is Sansa Stark as a young Jean Grey.

  • Simon Pegg will be co-writing Star Trek 3. I'm sure he's be good writing some Trek, but this is the third movie in a disappointing series, so he may be stuck with established bad decisions from the previous movies.

  • I must have missed the news there was going to be a Supergirl TV series. Well, Supergirl will be played by Melissa Benoist who you may or may not know from something.

  • Hasbro's first attempt at a fan-created character was a huge success, resulting in the very popular character Windblade. Hasbro is taking things a step further with letting fans vote on a new combiner team. Fans can decide on whether the characters are Autobots or Decepticons, the types of vehicles they transform into, and the names. The new characters will eventually be a part of the Combiner Wars toys and I'm sure will make their way to the comics, too. All voting will be handled on the Transformers app. I'm excited to see where this goes. Windblade turned out awesome and is a fantastic character, but a combiner team is a much bigger responsibility, so hopefully the fans make good choices again.

Fandom chose wisely for Windblade. Can they do it again?

  • DC Collectibles announced the New Batman Adventures first deluxe figure, Roxy Rocket with rocket. Roxy looks overjoyed riding a 12" rocket, with lights on it. Neat.

  • The next Mortal Kombat X trailer reveals Kitana as an older but still hot ninja lady eager to kill people in new ways.

  • Amiibo wave 4 will include Lucina, Pac-Man, Ness, Robin, Charizard, and Wario. There will also be a Mario Party line of Amiibo with Toad and new versions of Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser. As if we need more of the characters you can find anywhere. Also the Marth Amiibo will be re-released when the new Fire Emblem game is out for the 3DS. I just want Nintendo to re-release Captain Falcon. Or ship more. Or something.

  • Nintendo is bringing the New Nintendo 3DS XL to the U. S. in February. The updated system has a new analog nub and built-in Amiibo support. There was a Majora's Mask Limited Edition version, but it sold out in minutes. The NN3DS will also not include an AC adapter because the one for the other 3DS systems is compatible, so if you've never had a 3DS like me, you'll have to buy one. Nintendo really needs a new naming scheme for their systems. What will the next 3DS be called? Super New 3DS XL? Ridiculous.

  • Dying too much in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will give you the option of a chicken hat. Wearing the chicken hat makes the game easier.

  • Tales of Zestria will read the save data from previous Tales games to give your characters a character plush they can attach to their head. Zestria will read saves of Vesperia, Graces F, Xillia, Xillia 2, and Symphonia. Zestria will also have Evangelion costumes, which we probably won't see in the U.S.

  • Dead or Alive 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360 might not get any future DLC because of some limitations. The PS4 and Xbox One will still get new DLC, though. Maybe it's time to stop releasing DLC for this game because there is way too much.

  • It's the second trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's a lot like the first trailer, with some new shots here and there. Everyone is fighting one another.

  • Hot Toys is making an Alien figure, but it's a busty girl wearing an Alien costume as a part of their Hot Angel line. It almost seems like their version of Kotobukiya's Bishoujo statue line, but with high end expensive action figures. What a coincidence that it was announced hot on the heels of Neil Blomkamp's concept art showing Ripley wearing an Alien head helmet. I guess Hot Toys' previous She Predator Machiko figure will have someone to fight soon.

  • Mezco released new photos of their Judge Dredd One:12 Collective figure. Dredd stands 6" tall has extra hands, weapons, fabric uniform. It's interesting that two companies are doing 6" Judge Dredd figures, Mezco and ThreeA. Mezco's Dredd looks like it came out of a comic, but ThreeA's upcoming Dredd will probably have a more realistic look to it. I'll have to hold off until I see ThreeA's version to decide, but they'll both be around the same price, Mezco's is $65. Mezco is also teasing a Lawmaster (ThreeA has also said they have one in production).

  • Jakks Pacific are bringing out a Metroid, Samus, Ganon figures in their World of Nintendo line, as revealed by The Fwoosh. That Metroid looks great. I'll have to get that as soon as I see it because that will not stay on store shelves long. It's a little weird how their Ganon figure is not from the same game as their previous Link figure. Oh, there are new Mario figures, too.

  • Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview that if there there was a new F-Zero that it would need a new controller. As if the Wii U didn't have enough controller options already. I thought the GameCube controller worked well enough for F-Zero GX, and I'm sure the Classic controller would be fine. I don't think there would need to be a new controller unless the game would do something completely different or revolutionary from other console racing games. Basically I just want a new F-Zero.

  • Amiibos are hard enough to find, but one guy hate pre-ordered a hundred of the the Target exclusive Rosalina just to re-sell them. Why? Not just to make money, but because he hates the character so much and wants to screw over Rosalina fans. Damn, and here I am just wanting one Captain Falcon. Why doesn't Nintendo want our money? I just don't understand why they won't make more when the demand in obviously there.

  • Scarlett Johansson will star in the live-action Ghost in the Shell. Great choice, but I'm wondering if they'll keep the character's name of Motoko Kusanagi or give her a more "English" name, or what else might be done to the film to "Americanize" it. Here's a pic of her from Under the Skin to see what she'd look like with dark hair, but hopefully they'll keep it purple.

  • Marvel released the first Ant Man trailer. I like the look of the suit and ants sounds like helicopters for some reason. It's a Marvel movie so I'm sure it'll be huge.
