Vote for the Battlestar Galactica: Razor DVD Cover Art

Here is something cool for all of us Battlestar Galactica fans. If you head over to Sci-fi.com you can vote for the cover art of the Battlestar Galactica: Razor - Unrated Extended Edition DVD. There are three covers to choose from with the winning cover to be revealed on September 14th. Cover A prominently feature Admiral Cain and the new character Kendra Shaw with their presence on cover B being a little less. Cover C is more in the style of the Season 2.5 DVD set. Once you submit your vote you are treated to an exclusive minute-and-a-half clip from Razor. Razor will premier on Sci-fi channel November 24th. The DVD will be on store shelves December 4th.

I'm all about cover B or C mainly because of the big Battlestar Pegasus logo on the front. What other time will we get to see the Pegasus logo on a DVD art? Never. That's why it has to be cover B or C. Vote wisely, friends.

Well, we already know the fate of new girl since she is not on the regular show. Kendra Shaw is totally going to die.

Games

Exhibit B as to why Sega's final system will never die: Hello Kitty loves the Dreamcast.

  • Despite Sega no longer supporting the Dreamcast, the system still has new games coming out. RedSpotGames, the independent publisher of the R-Type-like Dreamcast shooter Last Hope, announced two new Dreamcast games. The first is a shooter named Dalforce. Dalforce is an original 11-stage vertical shooter that can support four players. The other game is a puzzle game called Wind and Water Puzzle Battles. This is a port of an existing arcade game but will also feature four-players and secret characters.

  • The BioShock generosity of Irrational Games and 2K Games continues to amaze us. The complete MP3 score for BioShock is available for free from the Cult of Rapture. If you received a broken Big Daddy figure with your limited edition version of the game, just sign up at the Cult of Rapture and they'll send you a prepaid box to send back the figure. They will also send you a printed version of the BioShock: Breaking the Mold artbook and a new figure free of charge. Other companies need to take note: this is how you reach out to your fans and show them how much you appreciate them.

  • Ninjas are fierce and deadly creatures that love to flip out. They can also be cuter than that sub-par I-Ninja ninja. Check out the trailer for Ninjatown for the DS. Ninja Consultant and Business Ninja are two of my new ninja heroes.

  • Capcom revealed the first background art for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Balrog's stage has a lot of purple, a big light-up money sign, a pimp, and a creepy man dressed in yellow.

  • Project Gotham Racing 4 will include an exclusive Geometry Wars game called Geometry Wars: Waves. The title will not be released on Xbox Live and is not a sequel, but more of a spin-off.

  • Konami announced an original Castlevania game for mobile phones: Castlevania: Order of Shadows. The game will deal with the Belmonts again and will hopefully be somewhat decent.

  • Sierra announced a new game they call an acrobatic shooter named WET. WET's main protagonist is Rubi: a sexy female with guns, a sword, black hair and killer tattoos. That's one thing we don't have enough of in games: Hot badass chicks. WET will be out sometime in 2008.

  • The previously AO rated Manhunt 2 has now been given an M rating. There is no word on what has been cut from the game. I get the feeling that what was cut wasn't important to the game in the first place; It was just there so all this controversy could get worked up about the game and give the title a ton of free advertising.

Movies

  • The home video market exploded this week when Paramount, who supported both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, announced to support only HD-DVD. Why did they decide to join with the losing side? Because Microsoft gave Paramount millions of dollars. That means all the Paramount movies that were supposed to come out on Blu-ray have now been cancelled. Except for Steven Spielberg's movies, because Spielberg supports Blu-ray. Michael Bay was furious about the not having Transformers on Blu-ray, but changed his mind. Paramount probably gave him a couple million to shut up. Now the average consumer is more confused and both formats are in trouble if consumers decide to not support either. This format war needs to end, now more than ever. Besides, when you look at the sales numbers, and the still better studio support, we can all see that Blu-ray is the better choice.

  • A trailer for Aliens Versus Predator: Requiem is available online. Frankly, it's one of the most awesome things ever, and that is a scientific fact. Warning: You have to jump through some hoops to get to it, including age verification and watching a stupid ad. Of course you can go look for it on YouTube, but you need to see it in all it's big ass glory.

  • The live action G.I. Joe movie was officially green lit. Now is the time for praying.

TV

  • After what looked like good news, it doesn't look like there will be another The Prisoner series after all... at least for now. If they can bring back Dr. Who, someone has to bring back The Prisoner.

  • Fans of gladiators and spandex, rejoice! NBC has plans to bring back American Gladiators. Glorious mullets better be on the list of things they're bringing back from the old show to make this one success. We'd also like to put in a request to make the Team America theme song a part of the show somehow.

Street Fighter: The Later Years Returns

College Humor's excellent Street Fighter: The Later Years will be returning on September 7th. Since episode three was many, many months ago, we began to wonder if there would ever be another one. Well, the months of patience will soon come to an end when episode four debuts in two weeks. There will be seven new episodes with each new episode debuting monthly.

If you are unfamiliar with Street Fighter: The Later Years, it takes place ten years after the end of Street Fighter II with the fighters in odd jobs, many of them out of shape, and the ensuing hilarity of what transpires. It is one of our favorite internet video series and it's about damn time that it came back. To help us all get by until episode four, today College Humor posted a trailer for the upcoming episodes, which follows.

Oh yes, that is Chun Li wielding a plunger. Since it has been a very, very long time since episode three, you may want to refresh your memory on everything that has happened to the world warriors thus far. Watch episodes 1-3 Street Fighter: The Later Years at College Humor.

Stealing Little Sister's cheeseburger makes Big Daddy angry.

  • Before you play nothing but BioShock next week, download the artbook for free. The artbook, titled BioShock: Breaking the Mold, was something that they wanted included with the limited edition of the game, but were not able to get around to completing. The PDF format book contains concept art and the evolution of the game. Also, do not read the forward by designer Ken Levine until you beat the game because it includes spoilers.

  • In more BioShock news, read what senior designer Joe McDonagh says the game started off as: in the near future on a tropical island with Nazis. Also, before Irrational Games went to 2K Games, no publisher wanted BioShock, thinking it was just another FPS. Silly publishers, they're probably regretting their decisions now.

  • Ivy isn't the only Soul Calibur IV female getting a boobalicious upgrade: sword sisters Sophitia and Cassandra are, too. Sophitia now wears a top that impossibly keeps the middle of her breasts covered. Cassandra has taken fashion advice from Power Girl with a cleavage window on her outfit. Check out the new screenshots and art from Soul Calibur IV, including a creepy Voldo image. This is starting to turn into DOA with swords. Will there be a beach fun game next?

  • A new Star Soldier shooter is coming to the Wii with Star Solider R. The game has no motion controls, but it doesn't need them since it's an overhead shooter. The previous games in the series are already available on the Wii's Virtual Console.

  • If you bought an Xbox 360 and activated an Xbox Live account after August 8th, 2006, you can get two free Live Arcade games. All you need to do is fill out a registration form and you'll receive a code via email by September 30th. If you haven't bought a 360 yet, you have until September 15th to purchase one and sign up.

  • EA was caught red-handed deleting information on the company's Wikipedia page. EA tried to delete items such as Trip Hawkins being the founder of the company, the "EA Spouse" controversy, and other criticism the company has received over the years. Way to create more controversy for yourselves. The EA Wikipedia page has been revised with the correct info, including EA's "editing" of Wikipedia.

  • ScrewAttack has the Top 10 Worst Mario Games. It's a great video and they have a valid reason for Super Mario Bros. 2 being on the list.

  • Those that end up being a big enough jerk on the PS3's Home can be banned for life and their PS3 won't be able to go online ever again. The only way to get back online would be to move and buy a new PS3. That may seem pretty steep, but maybe it's something Microsoft should also be doing for all the racist jack-asses on Xbox Live.

  • This should surprise no one: the next Tomb Raider game is in development. Crystal Dynamics is handling the game with former developer Core out of the picture due to their shoddy work on Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

Movies

  • There is an excerpt from the Castlevania animated movie script from Warren Ellis. The animated movie will be about Trevor Belmont, but the excerpt contains a conversation about having sex with a goat. You know, there just isn't enough goat sex humor in animated movies these days.

Adventures of Spawn 2 Online Comic

McFarlane needs to stop teasing us with the comics and figures and make an animated series out of this already.

Just as there was an online comic for the first series of Adventures of Spawn figures, so too will there be for the series two. This isn't entirely surprising news that Spawn.com announced today, but it is very good to here that McFarlane is putting that extra little effort into the Adventures of Spawn characters.

We've already seen the figures in the second series that continues Spawn's rad-ass animated look. At the San Diego Comic-Con one of the free posters at the McFarlane Toys booth was the very image to the right and it is a sweet poster, which was obviously hinting at what was to come. Two more teaser images are at Spawn.com.

The first eleven pages of the comic will go online on Friday, August 11th. The comic will total twenty-two pages when completed. There will assuredly be a print version of the comic as well with some bonus material, which was also done for the first online comic. The second issue of Adventures will have new characters and from the sample images we can see that the Phlebiac Brothers will be in the storyline. It has not been confirmed if all the other new characters in the Adventures series (Agent 8, Creech, Tremor, Raven Spawn, and Commando Spawn) will be in the comic, but I'm guessing that there is a very good chance they will be.

Sakura is about to rebalance Chun-Li right in her face.

  • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has been rebalanced in the game's new online X'-mode. Over at his blog, designer David Sirlin goes into great detail on how he balanced the characters' drop patterns, making online matches more fair for everyone. For players that got used to being cheap with specific characters the original X-mode will be unchanged.

  • Shooters are finally getting some toy love in Japan in December. The ships are the Vic Viper from Gradius, Metarion from Gradius 2, Silver Hawk from Darius Gaiden, R-9 from R-Type, and the Daedalus from Image Fight. The ships are in a line called Shooting Video Game History Gashapon. They are all small capsule-sized, but have plenty of detail.

  • Make your own picture labels in the style of Atari 2600 cartridges using Label Maker 2600.

  • TimeSplitters 4 is in development and will be more satirical towards games than movies as the previous titles were.

  • Command & Conquer 3 will soon get it's own show called Battlecast Primetime. It's like Sports Center, but has C&C stuff, highlights from online matches, and Nod's evil leader Kane as a host. This could turn out to be kind of interesting or completely ridiculous.

  • Two F.E.A.R. sequels will eventually be made. One will come from Vivendi which owns the name, the other will come from Monolith which worked on the first game. You can vote on the title for the Monolith game. Out of the thousands of submissions, the three title finalists are Dark Signal, Dead Echo, and Project Origin. Hopefully the game will be better than the name.

  • Some new scans of the latest issue of Famitsu show that Super Mario Galaxy will have cubed worlds as well as round, and Mario will have a new Boo ghost form. Mario as a Boo looks disturbing.

Hello Kitty Used as Punishment?

When you hear incredibly bizarre news it's a 50/50 chance that the news is either coming out of Florida or Asia. In this case Asia is the winner. In particular, the wonderful nation of Thailand where I'm pretty sure the only reason to visit is to have sex with an underage prostitute or if you find yourself in a street fighting tournament. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Recently, a new punishment for misbehaving police officers in Thailand was revealed. Instead of dolling out something normal like suspensions or firings, Thai police superiors can hand out pink Hello Kitty armbands to shame miscreant officers.

Now, if you're a long time reader of Digital Monkey Box you might know that I have a certain... fondness for Hello Kitty. I'm going to go on record and say that a Hello Kitty armband should be a badge of honor, not of shame. Maybe an armband featuring Mickey Mouse or Justin Timberlake would be better suited as punishment as they are both lame, unlike Hello Kitty.

Games

Start scheduling your 4-player online co-op Halo 3 nights now.

  • Bungie unveiled that Halo 3's campaign mode will have four-player online co-op. Players will be able to play through the entire game online with three other people. Player one will be Master Chief, player two the Arbiter, and the third and fourth players will be two brand new Elites characters. Their names are N’tho ‘Sraom and Usze ‘Taham and are human sympathizers. It seems a little odd that the focus is more on Elites and that one of the new characters isn't be some other Spartan. Also, to really support four players kicking butt and being super awesome, the battles in campaign mode would have to be utterly insane.

  • The classic block-breaking game Arkanoid will make its return on the DS. The new game will have 140 stages plus a Quest Mode. A knob add-on controller will also be available in black, white, silver and pink for those craving classic style gameplay. Arkanoid will be available in Japan in December, however there is no US release date yet.

  • A Japanese strategy RPG for the Xbox 360 called Operation Darkness obtained a 'D' rating, Japan's equivalent to our 'M.' With that rating the game is not a typically cute Japanese RPG. Operation Darkness has World War II setting with werewolves and other fantasy stuff. It certainly sounds cool and it helps fill a void in the 360's RPG sector. Let's hope it makes over here.

  • Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI will be getting remade for the Nintendo DS with graphical upgrades. There are no plans to release them in the US yet, but with SquareEnix's success in continually re-releasing Final Fantasy games they would be foolish not to.

  • Joystiq interviewed DOA and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki where he discusses games that may or may not be in development and says, "Tekken sucks."

  • Grand Theft Auto IV has been delayed until sometime between February and April of 2008, making it possible for other games that in 2007 that are not Halo 3 to find their way into gamers' hands.

Comics

Dead, no face, and a possibly cool costume. This is not Spawn. This guy has glowing red eyes, not green.

  • At a Comic-Con panel Todd McFarlane revealed a new comic project with The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman called Haunt. A year ago Kirkman publicly challenged McFarlane to do more comics. McFarlane took the challenge and the two collaborated on the new book that should be out in early 2008. It's great to see McFarlane coming back to comics. That Haunt character doesn't remind of Spawn in the least. Seriously though, we love McFarlane's work. The book will probably be great and we fully expect some Haunt action figures to appear in the Spawn line.

Movies

  • In the mood for a crazy rumor? How about Bruce Campbell possibly directing Spiderman 4? Yeah, we thought it was too crazy to believe. How about Bruce Campbell starring in more Old Spice commercials? Now, that's something we could believe.
