The Monkey's News Box: 4/5/15

Games

  • This was a big week for Amiibo. Wave 5 was announced and includes Dr. Mario, Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Bowser Jr., and Olimar. Wave 5 will be out in September, but oddly, there will be a mini-wave in July consisting of Dark Pit and Palutena. I'm not sure how that'll work. Yoshi's Wooly World will also get its own Amiibo with three differently colored Yoshi. What's cool about the Yoshi is that they will be made of fabric instead of plastic. All these new Amiibo are great and all, but with what happened during the Wave 4 pre-orders it's probably going to be insanity getting these.

Dr. Mario doesn't have a cure for missing out on Amiibos, but he does recommended taking lots of pills.

  • So, Amiibo wave 4 pre-orders turned into Amiibo-geddon. Here's a great review of the chaos of the Amiibo wave 4 pre-orders, which is very accurate. For myself, I was able to get Ness after being in line for 2 hours, waiting for the slow-ass web-in-store ordering process. I was the fifth in line and finally got to order him at the register an hour and forty minutes after the four people in front of me got their Amiibos ordered. Or didn't for two of them, because Lucina and Robin sold out while their orders were processing. I was also able to order a Pac-Man elsewhere. While I would have liked to have gotten a couple others, at least I was able to get the main two I wanted. Surprisingly, the Splatoon Amiibos also quickly sold out. Keep in mind that Splatoon is a game that isn't even out yet. That's blind Amiibo-fever right there. This was easily the worst pre-order launch for Amiibos yet. I'm scared of what will happen with wave 5 because I want almost all the wave 5s.

  • Here's the full roster of Mortal Kombat X characters, not including the upcoming DLC characters. I like that there are so many new characters. Predator is officially in MKX in one of the DLC packs which also brings Carl Weathers as a skin for Jax, Commando Johnny Cage, and Infrared Scorpion. The other DLC characters are of course Jason, Tanya, and Tremor, along with other costumes.

  • If you're looking for something different in a twin-stick shooter, check out Myriad. Colorful, great music, and very different than the norm.

  • This new shooter Dimension Drive has the player switching between two screen throughout gameplay. The screen is split down the middle, divided in two different dimensions, as the ship's power runs out in one dimension you have to switch over to the other dimension/side of the screen. You have to be conscious of what's going on in both screens before switching over.

  • Halo 5: Guardians release date is October 27th. Now the question is whether I'll buy an Xbox One for one game.

  • Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is heading to PS4. The SE will include three new playable characters with Lady, Trish, and Vergil bringing the total to five total playable characters. Unfortunately, it will be digital only in North America with Japan getting the retail editions.

  • NECA is expanding into Alien videogames for their Aliens figures with Amada Ripley from Alien Isolation. I still want to see NECA do figures from the Aliens Vs Predator arcade game.

Prototype head shots for NECA's Amada Ripley figure.

  • Pop Culture Shock's next Mortal Kombat statue is Klassic Sub Zero. The 1:3 scale Sub Zero stands 28" tall, has an LED ice ball, a spine-rip fatality, and is limited to only 450 pieces. Sub Zero will only be available on the Pop Culture Shock website for $699. If you're not already spending enough on Mortal Kombat this month, have at it.

Sub Zero wins. Fatality.

  • An actual blue Bluestreak in the Transformers Masterpiece line is coming out, but it's an Japanese exclusive and limited to 200 pieces. so went up for pre-order and sold out the first day.

  • I'm not sure why you'd want a figure of dead Yamcha, but one is coming anyway. Have Yamcha dead wherever you want him. I guess I missed the joke on this one.

Movies/TV

I gave Age of Extinction a chance because of the Dinobots, but it failed me considerably.

  • Speaking of terrible movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will have Stephen Amell as Casey Jones. I'm sure he can be a good Casey Jones, but if nothing else changes for the good for the sequel then he may be the only decent part about it.

  • Ash Vs. Evil Dead set is coming to Starz as a mini-series. Bruce Campbell will once again be Ash, although probably a lot older. It also has Lucy Lawless, so that's something. The first season will be 10 half-hour episodes. Seems too short to me, why not 1-hour episodes?

  • The upcoming Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past will apparently be 17 minutes longer. That's quite a chuck of movie. Now we just need to know when it's coming out.

  • Arnold Schwarzenegger is in a zombie movie and it looks really good. Check out the trailer for Maggie.

  • The first pic of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is up and it's Deadpool. On a bear rug. In front of a fireplace.

  • What does Jesse Eisenberg look like as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman? He looks like bald Jesse Eisenberg.
