The Monkey's News Box: 4/27/14

  • A Transformers X Evangelion crossover is happening. There isn't too much information besides a picture and a brief "story" synopsis that says Optimus Prime and Sky Lynx are going to fight the Angels. I like the look of Optimus Prime in the EVA Unit-01's purple color scheme. Whatever comes out of this, be it a toys, a manga, or something else, it should be interesting. Maybe an EVA or NERV re-deco is on the way for Sky Lynx, too.

Only EVA Unit Optimus Prime can save Tokyo-3.

  • Zen Studios' Masters of the Force table looks to be their most intense Star Wars pinball table. There is so much going on in this trailer. The Star Wars Pinball: Heroes Within pack will be out on April 29th and include tables for Han Solo, Droids, A New Hope, and Masters of the Force.

  • A new vertical shooter Gaiabreaker should be hitting the Wii U in North America soon. It looks rather simple as far as shooters go, but it could be some fun.

  • The new trailer for Mad Max focuses on the road warrior's awesome car. That blower is kind of ridiculously big, though.

  • Japan is getting a limited edition of Legend of Heroes: Trails of Blue Evolution which includes three chibi figurines and a beach diorama. Well that's something new for a limited edition. It also includes a soundtrack CD, drama CD. If this comes over to the U.S., I wouldn't expect to see the beach.

  • Tales of Xillia 2 will have a collector's edition when it's released on August 19th. It includes a Ludger figure, art book, Soundtrack selection CD, a Rollo plush charm, DLC, and a replica pocket watch. Yes, it's not a real pocket watch. What's the point of a replica pocket watch? There isn't one!

  • So, the infamous Atari 2600 E.T. cartridge landfill was excavated to see if something that actually happened was actually true. Atari had confirmed that they did this a long time ago, so how did this become such a mystery and rumor? Anyway, the documentary will debut on Xbox Live if anyone thinks that the excavation is a mystery and/or rumor.

  • There is now a Pop vinyl Sharknado. Awesome. This cute low budget effect will be out in June. I'm kind of expecting to see an SDCC exclusive version of this guy.

Sharknado is now a cute character unto its own.

Movies / TV

  • Ken now has his own trailer for Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. The series is still coming in May and is looking like it might actually be a good live-action version of Street Fighter.

  • The third Hobbit film, There and Back Again, has been renamed The Battle of Five Armies. Whatever works for them. There and Back Again might still be used for the inevitable Blu-ray box set.

  • Cyborg is joining the Batman/Superman movie. They should just call this a Justice League movie at this point.

  • Flash Gordon is the latest to join the universe of reboots. Flash!

  • Roberto Orci might be directing the third Star Trek movie since J.J. Abrams is busy with Star Wars. As long as there isn't so much ridiculous lens flare.

  • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a name that makes sense. It takes place on the Moon between Borderlands 1 & 2 and... you can play as a Claptrap! That's right, a Claptrap is a playable character. The other playable characters are actually previous NPCs from the other two games; Athena (General Knoxx expansion), Sheriff Nisha (Borderlands 2), and Wilhelm (first boss in Borderlands 2). This is exciting stuff. Oh, and there are jetpacks. Jetpacks! Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

Four-player Claptrap action on the Moon with jetpacks is going to be insane.

  • This is what $41 million looks like. At PAX East, Chris Roberts debuted some dog-fighting gameplay and helmet-spinning for his ultimate crowd-funded game Star Citizen. The game is still in an alpha phase, but it's looking very impressive so far.

  • Futuridium EP Deluxe is a nifty indie shooter heading to the PS4 and Vita where you target blue squares along a giant ship before taking out the core of the ship.

  • The director of the Zero Escape games, Kotaro Uchikoshi, revealed he's working on a new game. He doesn't say if it's the third Zero Escape, but either way I'm already interested.

Movies / TV

  • Bruce Timm directed a new Batman: Strange Days short for Batman's 75th anniversary and it's beyond awesome. Batman only says two words.

  • Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist begins in May. It's looking good so far just from the Ryu trailer.

  • Aniplex is releasing Persona 3 The Movie: Spring of Birth as a Blu-ray import. This is the Japanese release, but Aniplex is making it easy for fans to get a copy. This comes in standard and collector's edition versions. The collector's edition includes a soundtrack CD, exclusive art, 48-page booklet, stickers, art cards, and Aniplex is putting in an English translation of the booklet.

Nendoroid is a perfect figure format for Link.

How much to buy Hyrule Field?

  • NECA is switching up Predator Series 12. The new Viper Predator, who was going to be included with the Blade Fighter vehicle, will replace Bad Blood Predator, who will now be released as a stand-alone deluxe figure. Speaking of the Blade fighter, NECA has posted the spec sheets for the vehicle coming in August, now sans figure.

Movies / TV

  • The first trailer for The Expendables 3 shot online along with sixteen character posters. So much manliness. The trailer is saying this is the last one. If it is, they're really going out with a manly bang. The Expendables 3 hits on August 14th.

  • Ridley Scott is producing a live-action Halo digital feature, which might be a movie or a bunch of smaller chapters released individually. There's going to be a lot of Halo watching if that Spielberg show is still coming.

  • Revoltech Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures are coming in September. These are based from the new cartoon, but still look incredible. I could do without the goofy heads, but that pizza accessory is one of the best accessories ever. I would love Revoltech figures based on the original Turtles and/or the original animated turtles.

Can't stop these radical dudes.

  • Hot Toys posted a ton of photos for their 1/6 scale ED-209 figure. This looks amazing, but if you want it you'll need to scarf Ramen for a month.

  • The Predator is in Call of Duty: Ghosts' newest multiplayer expansion, Devastation. This kind of makes me want to play some COD Ghosts now.

  • Cave is releasing a new Shooting Collection with eleven games an seven playthrough DVDs. This massive collection includes DeathSmiles I and IIX, Mushihime-sama Futari 1 and 2, DoDonPachi Resurrection Ver. 1.5 and Black Label, Espgaluda II Black Label, Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets, Akai Katana, Guwange, and DoDonPachi Saidaioujou. The playthrough DVDs include Mushihime-sama Futari 2, Mushihime-sama Futari 2 X DeathSmiles Mega Black Label Extreme Black Official, DoDonPachi Resurrection Official and Black Label, Espgaluda II, DeathSmiles, and Akai Katana. So much shoot!

  • Alien: Isolation will be scaring your socks off on October 10th.

  • Saints Row IV is getting a Game of the Century Edition. It's good that they claimed it now. No other game can claim to be Game of the Century until the next century rolls around. This will, of course, include al the DLC that was released.

  • In Battlefield 4, giant shark jumps you! Yep, there's a Megalodon in the Naval Strike DLC. Awesome.

  • inFAMOUS: Second Son will get an update with an option to turn off the HUD, the ability to change the time of day, and to lock 30 FPS all the time if you don't like it going more than that. Why wouldn't you want it to go above 30? Were players finding the faster framerate too jarring?

  • Cortana is now a part of the Windows phone 8.1. We're one step closer to getting a real holo Cortana.
