Mega Drive Megatron Does What Autobots Don't

Wonder Festival 2014 Winter happened during the weekend and had lots of great new things on display, with the best and most unexpected thing being Mega Drive Megatron. For some reason Megatron transforms into a Sega Mega Drive (Genesis for us in the 'States). Why is Megatron transforming into a Mega Drive? This would be a role probably more akin to Soundwave/Soundblaster's tastes, but who cares because this is just super awesome. This incredible collaboration is between Sega and Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. Sega of Japan and attendees at the WF14W posted pictures on Twitter, with shots of the prototype and the concept art.

"I would have waited an eternity for this. Game over, Prime."

The concept art shows that the finished figure will have a USB port, which means this will be another addition to the other USB Transformers that have made it out over the years. Will Mega Drive Megatron also be able to store all your secret files? I'm not so sure you can trust Megatron with that kind of stuff. He looks to include a controller to. So, if he holds the controller, does that mean Megatron can play himself? The figure also looks to be a part of Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. new branding, according to their website, so that's exciting.

Sadly, Mega Drive Megatron isn't big enough to play actual Mega Drive games.

There is no word on release date yet, but there's no doubt that this is going to sell out quick. Obviously, now we need to see an Optimus Prime Super Famicom to re-invigorate the 16-bit console wars. Unless Takara Tomy can only work with Sega consoles, then how about a Saturn or DreamCast?

"I still function... in 16-bits."
