McFarlane Toys Announces Halo 3 Figures
The Halo 3 controllers and mini-figures were just the beginning, as I speculated and was hoping. McFarlane Toys announced today, via Spawn.com, that they will indeed be producing a line of figures based on Halo 3. After JoyRide Studios got axed, it's great to see that fans and collectors will be able to get new figures based on Halo, especially quality ones from McFarlane Toys. JoyRide's Halo figures were sometimes awesome, sometimes okay, but McFarlane's are sure to be incredible. There are five figures coming in the first line. Master Chief will stand 5 inches tall, come with an assault rifle, and have eighteen points of articulation. That's right, unlike many of McFarlane Toys' Spawn and sports "statues," the Halo 3 line will have real action figures. You can't have the Chief without his know-it-all companion, so there will be a Cortana figure with a light-up base that will illuminate the 4.5 inch A.I. cyber girl. McFarlane Toys is known for creating sexy female figures, so expect to see a super sexed-up Cortana. For Covenant foes, the line will have a brute Chieftain that will stand 6 inches tall and be equipped with the deadly gravity hammer. A 5 inch Jackal Sniper will come with his, duh, sniper rifle. To round out the line there is also a Grunt two-pack. The Grunts will stand 3.5 inches and come with a plasma pistol and a needler. The figures aren't all McFarlane Toys is working on. They wil also have a line of vehicles that includes a Warthog, Ghost, and a new vehicle, the Brute Chopper. Unfortunately, the figures won't be able to fit in them as the vehicles are only 3 inches long, but they will be made from a combination of die-cast metal and plastic. Johnny Lightning already made a few Warthogs, so maybe they will be in the same scale. Perhaps McFarlane Toys will produce a boxed set of bigger vehicles for the figures later on for those that demand intense vehicle battles. If you were hoping to do a little cross battling between your Spawn and Halo figures, it looks like you're out of luck. Spawn figures usually clock in at about 8 inches, so there won't be any way to have Master Chief and Spawn team-up against a Brute and Violator. So far the only picture available is that of Master Chief, but Spawn.com is sure to update with more pics and a feature in the near future. Unfortunately, the figures won't be ready when the game ships.
