Feel the
magic of Mr. Pants in your pants.
My
Thoughts
Much to
my disappointment,
It’s Mr. Pants has nothing to do with pants. You don’t collect pants, steal
pants, put on pants, take off pants, or pull things from your pants. This is a
puzzle game. Is it a puzzle game involving pants? No. This is just a puzzle game
where you match shapes to other shapes to clear them from the screen. The only
thing this game has to do with pants is that a guy named Mr. Pants appears on
the title screen.
Mr. Pants is a
rotund man who does not wear a shirt. He only wears a hat and underwear. At
least he’s wearing something. The graphics are vibrant and colorful. Many of the
colors are pastel based so the visual splendor may not be for everyone. The game
contains three game modes: puzzle, wipeout, and marathon. Puzzle mode is where
you are given a picture made of blocks and have to clear it with a
pre-determined number of other blocks. Pictures are many things with a few
examples being a person, train, submarine, and rocket. There are three
difficulty levels with a number of stages in each. Easy has fifteen while medium
and hard each hold twenty. The easy levels are easy. You shouldn’t have too many
problems clearing out the blocks. On the medium and hard levels you may run into
some scratch your head moments and others may stump you for a while. In wipeout
mode you need to clear a randomly generated board with randomly generated blocks
as fast as you can. In marathon mode you keep getting random blocks and clear
them while a scribble takes over the edges of the board, shrinking the area you
can play in.
If you do get
stuck after a few attempts on a single puzzle, you can call on the help of Mr. Helpo. Mr.
Helpo will help you one time during your current stage. If you place a block in
the wrong place he will show you where it goes. His assistance is appreciated,
but Mr. Helpo is a block Nazi. For example, in many stages you have multiple
blocks that are exactly the same in shape in color and you can place them in
multiple spots on the board in any order without screwing up. If you enlist the
assistance of Mr. Helpo and you don’t place one of these blocks in the exact
right place, Mr. Helpo will tell you to put it in the left spot when the next,
exact same block will go in the right spot. If these blocks are the same it
shouldn’t matter which order you put them in the two spots. Mr. Helpo just
wasted the help you needed for the next
block. What a jerk. This gets especially irritating when this happens because
you have to start the board over and get another attempt counted against you.
There is a great sense of accomplishment, however, when you complete a tough
puzzle without Mr. Helpo's dictator-like assistance.
It’s Mr.
Pants is a nice puzzle game that will test your brain a bit. Good luck and
try not to let the
block-can-only-be-placed-in absolutely-one-spot mentality of Mr. Helpo get on your nerves. I will
leave you with a compelling picture of the man himself, Mr. Pants.
