Halo 3 Scarab Hands-On

Meet the face of your imminent re-spawn in both the Halo 3 game and the ActionClix.

The massive Halo ActionClix Limited Edition Scarab arrived in the mail last week. This battle-damaged version of the Scarab was an exclusive at San Diego Comic-Con. Many fans will probably not buy the thing, but may still be interested in it, so here are photos on the un-boxing process and the Scarab itself. This thing is seriously huge measuring 24" x 24" x 20". Along with the Scarab, the box contained two maps, instructions for the game and on how to play against the Scarab, and four action cards, one for each leg. There are two maps because it is so big that it needs two maps to fit on the play field.

The Scarab is fairly hefty, but feels a little more fragile than I thought it would be. I was afraid of accidentally breaking the legs while assembling it and am still afraid of something snapping when I move it. To make it stand you need to have the legs inside the Clix dials (the round black things) which is a little disappointing that it can't stand on its own. There is no articulation except for the turret at the top. Since the actual Halo ActionClix are not out just quite yet, we haven't been able to see how the game actually works. Overall though, it's a nice looking piece, even if its just on display.

That 278 means that I have Scarab 278 out of 500. It's also numbered on the bottom of the Scarab.

Holy crap, the actual box is just as big as the shipping box.

The Scarab box with the tiny one I was given at SDCC07.

Inside the box is a cube of Master Chief-resistant Styrofoam.

Remove a thin layer of Styrofoam and you find the two back legs with the maps, cards, and instructions.

Take off half the cube and you have the sexy Scarab body and the two front legs.

The Scarab; fully assembled and ready to destroy Earth.

The big cannon is the only moveable part of the Scarab.

Here's some Scarab ass right for your face.

The Scarab can also be loaded with figures, kind of making itself an extra map.

Here is a what the Scarab will look like to the Earth forces on bombing runs.

A detail shot of the "battle damage."

That cannon is going to kill you at least once in Halo 3.
