Dreamcast is 10 Today Sega's ill-fated yet ultimately awesome Dreamcast is 10 today, launched on the perfectly numbered day of 9/9/99. Yet, just a year later Sony launched the PlayStation 2, harvesting gamers for itself and in turn helping to give the Dreamcast an early, undeserved death. The Dreamcast was both ahead of its time and died before its time. Today there is a scant trickle of new games that come out, bought by a dedicated fan base. So, what better way to celebrate than with a brand new game! That's right, a brand spanking new Dreamcast game for it's 10-year anniversary, or birthday, whatever you want to call it. The new game is Rush Rush Rally Racing, developed by Senile Team and published by Redspotgames. It will be available in October for about $22, which you can pre-order now. From the trailer you can see that the graphics aren't all that impressive, but RRRR looks fun and I am digging that music. What I really love is that they say "No realistic backgrounds. No sponsored cars." All they want you to do is have fun and that's exactly what the games looks like. For some terrific insight on the system, read then President of Sega of America Peter Moore's reminiscence of the Dreamcast. - Shawn - 9/9/09 |
